Drury plans first start of 2021 for art collector – Reuters

An art collector will target Kelly’s Landing Stakes at Churchill Downs.

According to trainer Tommy Drury Jr..

Art Collector has been on the sidelines since finishing eighth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (GI) at Keeneland last year. The colt went to the farm in South Carolina after the Breeders’ Cup but has been back at work at Churchill Downs for four weeks. Five-time winner Bernardini’s son completed a half-mile in:50.60 on the turf Sunday at Churchill Downs with regular rider Brian Hernandez Jr. in the saddle.

“He has turf in his pedigree and actually broke his young daughter on the turf. The job today was just to keep our options open,” Drury said. “We’re going to target Kelly’s Landing seven furlongs to earth as his comeback run and take it from there. We are very lucky to have a horse like this in our stable. He showed his talent last year and we are very excited for what awaits us this year.

Kelly’s Landing is one of eight stakes in the 2021 Spring Meet closing weekend which is headlined by the $600,000 Stephen Foster (GII) on Saturday, June 26.
